Principal Bulletin, December 08, 2016

Dear St. Joseph Parents:

I want to offer just two reminders, one correction, a very sincere “Thank You,” and a weather reminder.

Two Reminders

Songfest.  This Christmas carol performance by students in first and second grade will take place tomorrow, Friday, December 9, in the church at 9:00 am.  Please join us for 30 minutes of delightful and enthusiastic Christmas songs offered by primary children.

Christmas Program.  Our annual Christmas Program for students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will take place on Tuesday, December 20, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, in the Franciscan Center at Lourdes University.  This is a wonderful experience for students and parents.

One Correction

There is a dress rehearsal for the Christmas Program (grades 3, 4, and 5) on Tuesday, December 20 at the Franciscan Center.  All students in kindergarten through grade 8 attend the dress rehearsal.  It will take place at 9:30 am not at 9:00 am, as I incorrectly stated in last week’s letter.  This performance works very well for extended family, especially those who may not want to be out after dark.  All are welcome.

A Very Sincere Thank You

In last week’s Thursday Envelope I sent home a survey regarding the cafeteria and food service program at SJS.  I asked that you complete it and return it the next day – i.e. about 20 hours later.  It was a lot to ask…but you did it and you returned important information to us that allows us to continue this study on improving our school lunch program.  A sub-committee of the School Advisory Council is actively evaluating data as we receive it.  Students in middle school will complete a similar survey next week.  Some of the issues that the study includes are the lunch programs of other public and non-public schools, the nutritional benefits of lunch items, and the likes and dislikes that students have.

The Council may add ad hoc members to the work of a sub-committee.  If you have background in the area of school lunch programs and would like to help us, please do not hesitate to contact me.

A Weather Reminder

There is a forecast for 5 – 8 inches of snow beginning Sunday evening.  So, just to review:  When Sylvania Schools close, St. Joseph School closes.  When Sylvania Schools delay, St. Joseph School delays.  St. Joseph follows up Sylvania’s television announcement by sending a Honeywell Alert repeating what was reported through the media. However, if something prevents us from sending that alert, we are still closed or delayed if Sylvania is closed or delayed.

Sincerely,

Sally A. Koppinger
