Dear St. Joseph School Parents,
End of the Quarter. Reminders:
Today, Thursday, March 10, marks the end of the third quarter of the school year.
Friday, March 11, is a Teacher Work Day. There is no school for students.
Report cards will be sent home on Wednesday, March 23.
Thank you again for your continuing support of education at St. Joseph School. You are wonderful partners and the children of St. Joseph benefit from our ability to work together. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher if you have questions or concerns about his or her progress. There is still a quarter of the year left and now is a very good time to review progress and provide intervention if it is needed.
Daylight Savings Time Begins. Please remember that with the return of Daylight Savings Time on Sunday, March 13, the mornings will remain darker longer. If you drive your children to school, please be watchful of students in the parking lot. They may be far less visible than they were just a few days ago.
Power of the Pen is an interscholastic creative writing program for students in grades seven and eight in the state of Ohio. Over seventy school districts compete, each starting with teams of twelve students, six from each grade. The teams compete in three different tournaments: a District, Regional, and State Tournament. On January 16, the District Tournament was held at Timberstone Junior High with 19 schools participating. The results of this competition qualified the St. Joseph teams as well as its individual members to compete at the Regional Tournament held at Lourdes University on March 2. The seventh grade team placed second overall. Team Members are Emma Hoyt, Elizabeth Newsom, Serena O’Loughlin, Amanda Pawlecki, Maddie Piscopo, and Charley Sullins. Maddie Piscopo had a Best of Round and automatically advances to the State Tournament.
The eighth grade team placed third overall. Team members are Jayna Lonsway, Kathryn Riddle, Hannah Salameh, Elizabeth Weathers, and Grade Werner. Grace Werner took first place. Jayna Lonsway placed 15th and also took a Best of Round. Both Jayna and Grace will advance to the State Competition in Wooster, Ohio. Congratulations to all of our student writers and their teacher-coaches, Mrs. Jessica Jones and Mrs. Molly Lindsley.
Science Fair is one of the electives offered in middle school. Competing this year at the District Science Fair and receiving awards of Excellent were Dina Angel, Devin Maynard, Ryan Snyder, and Raphael Yazji. Jacob Ziegler received a Superior Award and qualified to compete at the State Science Fair. Mrs. Pat Mallory moderates the Science Fair elective.
Enjoy the long weekend!
